Council has approved an important update to the Community Environmental Projects Grant Program (CEPGP), introducing a new funding stream that will expand opportunities for local, community-driven waste reduction initiatives. Beginning in 2026, the program will offer up to $102,000 annually, effectively doubling the total funding available for environmental projects across the city.
This creates meaningful new opportunities:
More support for local groups: Community associations, schools, neighbourhood organizations, and volunteer groups will now have access to greater financial resources to launch or grow waste avoidance, reduction, and repair initiatives right here in our ward.
Projects that keep waste out of landfills: Funding can support activities like repair cafés, reuse workshops, neighbourhood waste diversion pilots, and other creative solutions designed by and for the community.
Easier, familiar process: Because the new stream is integrated into the existing CEPGP framework, local organizations can continue using the same application process they’re already familiar with – removing barriers and making it easier to participate. If you’re new to CEPGP feel free to reach out to our office and we can help you! The application intake opened on February 25th.
This initiative directly supports the City’s Solid Waste Master Plan, which emphasizes reducing waste at the source and providing financial incentives that empower residents to take action. By enabling more community-led solutions, we can advance sustainability, strengthen local environmental stewardship, and build a cleaner, more resilient future. If your group has an idea for reducing waste in our neighbourhoods, this funding stream could help make it a reality.
