City staff have arranged to defer any construction until after the Metcalfe Fair to enable the use of the Larry Robinson Arena during this important community event. This change is not expected to delay the project; however, to meet the fall 2027 planned opening, weekend work should be anticipated during the construction season.

My office continues to receive regular updates from City staff on the Larry Robinson Arena renovation and expansion project.
The City has confirmed that the tender documents have now been issued to the pre-qualified contractors invited to bid on the project. The contract documents currently identify substantial completion by the end of September 2027. The City’s goal is to begin construction in early September 2026, or sooner if possible.
To date, work has already been undertaken to drill a new well for the facility. An Ontario Builds sign will also be installed on site before construction begins, recognizing the Province of Ontario’s funding contribution to the project.
Summer Programming and Facility Use
- City staff have confirmed that regular programming at Larry Robinson Arena has been relocated for the summer, including summer camps and other programming that had previously been scheduled for the facility.
- For community groups looking for alternate space in the Village of Metcalfe, the following non-city owned facilities may be able to accommodate community needs:

Next Steps
The tender is expected to close near the end of summer. My office expects to receive another update from City staff at that time, including next steps for the project schedule and construction planning.

One of the local projects I know many residents are following closely is the renovation and expansion of the Larry Robinson Arena in Metcalfe. This is a City of Ottawa project focused on modernizing the facility and improving accessibility so it can better serve the community for years to come.
The project includes an addition to create new accessible dressing rooms, improved public washrooms, office space, and related site improvements. It is also meant to address aging septic infrastructure and help ensure the arena remains functional, welcoming and accessible for all users.
At this time, the City is indicating an expected project timeline of Spring 2026 to Fall 2027 from start to finish. I know many residents and user groups are concerned about what this closure will mean for local programming. Work is underway to help ensure impacted programs are relocated while the arena is closed, and I will continue to share more information as those plans are confirmed. We’ll provide a list of other area alternatives for meeting and fitness space options so that the community centre based programs can continue as well. I recognize the inconvenience that this puts on the community but am committed to making it as smooth and temporary as possible. Please stay tuned for more updates.
For rural Ottawa, this investment matters. Residents in our villages deserve safe, modern, accessible recreational spaces just as much as anywhere else in the city.
