Latest Update: March 2026

One of the local projects I know many residents are following closely is the renovation and expansion of the Larry Robinson Arena in Metcalfe. This is a City of Ottawa project focused on modernizing the facility and improving accessibility so it can better serve the community for years to come.

The project includes an addition to create new accessible dressing rooms, improved public washrooms, office space, and related site improvements. It is also meant to address aging septic infrastructure and help ensure the arena remains functional, welcoming and accessible for all users.

At this time, the City is indicating an expected project timeline of Spring 2026 to Fall 2027 from start to finish. I know many residents and user groups are concerned about what this closure will mean for local programming. Work is underway to help ensure impacted programs are relocated while the arena is closed, and I will continue to share more information as those plans are confirmed. We’ll provide a list of other area alternatives for meeting and fitness space options so that the community centre based programs can continue as well. I recognize the inconvenience that this puts on the community but am committed to making it as smooth and temporary as possible. Please stay tuned for more updates.

For rural Ottawa, this investment matters. Residents in our villages deserve safe, modern, accessible recreational spaces just as much as anywhere else in the city.
