Every year in Ottawa, thousands of single mittens and gloves end up sitting in lost‑and‑found bins — without their match. At the same time, many of our neighbours could really use warm mittens during the winter months. That’s why I’m excited to be bringing The Lonely Mitten Project to Metcalfe alongside the Metcalfe Community Association.
What is The Lonely Mitten Project?
Launched in 2025 by OSEAN and Eco West Enders, this initiative collects single mittens and gloves, cleans them, matches them as closely as possible, and redistributes them to people who need help staying warm. Last year alone, Ottawa residents helped turn 5,000 lone mittens into 2,000 near‑perfect pairs — proof that small community efforts can make a huge impact.
This year, we will be collecting mittens at two drop-off locations:
- Metcalfe Community Centre
- Metcalfe Client Service Centre (foyer)
Mittens can be dropped off until the end of April
