You can submit a service request by:
Once a request is submitted, it is first closed by 311 and then forwarded to the appropriate City department for action. Seeing a status of “closed” does not always mean the issue has been resolved.
When a request is marked “closed,” it usually means 311 has transferred it to the responsible department. The department then reviews, schedules, or investigates the issue separately. This can understandably be confusing, and follow-ups are encouraged by calling 311.
Culverts under private driveways are the responsibility of the property owner. Property owners are responsible for keeping culverts clear of debris, flushing culverts, repairing or replacing damaged or deteriorated culverts. The City maintains drainage systems only in specific circumstances, such as municipal easements or City-owned infrastructure.
Speeding concerns are taken seriously and are reviewed based on road classification, traffic volume, and safety data.
Residents are encouraged to:
Traffic calming measures such as speed humps are not suitable for all roads, particularly arterial roads and designated truck routes, where they can pose safety risks. In these cases, options may include enforcement, signage, or other safety measures depending on the assessment results.
Ongoing concerns should be reported each time they occur, as consistent reporting helps build the data needed to support future action.
Everyone needs help from time to time and that is ok. Here are some local food pantries but if you still need help please reach out and we will help with additional resources.
As of January 1, 2026, the Province of Ontario took over responsibility for household recycling collection and materials management. The province has appointed Circular Materials to run the recycling program across Ontario. Miller Waste Services has been contracted by Circular Materials to collect blue and black bins which means the City of Ottawa is no longer responsible for household recycling collection.
For questions about recycling, blue & black bin replacement, or to report a missed pickup, please contact Miller Waste Services directly:

The City of Ottawa will continue to collect garbage, leaf and yard waste, and green bins. For Green Bin Replacement, continue to contact the City of Ottawa.
Residents are encouraged to report suspicious activity to:
Community concerns must be reported for police or courts to act.
Residents are always welcome to contact the Councillor’s office for advocacy and support, assistance navigating City services and processes, follow-ups on service requests, to share community questions or concerns, and for notarization services, as Councillor Skalski is now able to notarize as a Commissioner of Oaths.
Residents are encouraged to report concerns by calling 311 or online Property damage or maintenance | City of Ottawa , which allows By-law to assess the situation and determine the appropriate next steps.
When concerns are raised about junk or debris on a private property, By-law Services will first work with the property owner to achieve compliance. This typically involves educating the owner on the applicable by-law requirements and providing an opportunity and reasonable timeframe to clean up the property.
Charges are generally only laid if the property owner fails to comply after being given notice and time to correct the issue.
If you believe a property may not be complying with zoning regulations, the best first step is to contact 311 by phone or visit City of Ottawa to submit a service request for a zoning review. This allows City staff to assess the situation and determine whether the use or structure complies with the Zoning By-law.
Once a request is submitted, By-law Services will investigate and work directly with the property owner to address any issues. If a violation is confirmed, the City will outline the steps required to bring the property into compliance. You do not need to confront your neighbour directly, and your concern can be submitted confidentially through 311.
The City of Ottawa offers several helpful online tools to stay informed about what’s happening in your neighbourhood. By entering your street name into the Online Interactive Map, you can view any upcoming construction projects, along with their expected timelines. Residents can also use the Development Applications Search Tool, which provides detailed access to development applications submitted to the City. This tool allows you to look up proposals in your neighbourhood or ward and review the associated plans, reports, and documents.
Many residents have questions about what can—and cannot—go into the recycling bins. We know it can feel confusing, but the City offers a helpful online tool to make it easier. The Waste Explorer Tool lets you search any item and tells you exactly how to dispose of it, including whether it belongs in the blue bin, black bin, green bin, or garbage. You can also visit Circular Materials for more information on what items can be recycled.
Reporting a concern to the City of Ottawa is the fastest way to make sure your request is directed to the right team and handled on time. Choose the option that works best for you.
