At this month’s board meeting I was nominated to represent the SNC board on the Transition Committee – the table that will steer the amalgamation of 7 conservation authorities into one for our region. This work is important to me, representing a ward that covers a large portion of the watershed with several conservation projects, key waterfront lands and properties impacted by approvals under the purview of conservation authorities, I am hopeful that the work ahead will maintain that which is working well, ensure fairness for levy payers while benefiting from any efficiencies that can be gained through this process.
At the meeting we received an update on efforts that are being undertaken to address invasive species in other municipalities – an issue that I think needs closer attention in Ottawa, specifically in our ditch network where invasive Phragmites have widely spread.
Stay tuned for an upcoming opportunity to visit the conservation wetland area on Snake Island Rd that is currently being rehabilitated!
